We get great questions relating to what the GeoBlue Navigator expatriate investment covers and does not cover for medical insurance. Here are a few of those questions and answers we have compiled for our clients, you.

Question: Who may purchase the GeoBlue Navigator insurance?

Answer: The GeoBlue Navigator international insurance benefits is available for career expatriates residing outside the U.S.  This long term overseas insurance is also available for those in faith based / missionary ministries and organizations.

Question: Why would I desire to have the GeoBlue Navigator overseas insurance if the country I am residing in offers me National Health Insurance, like Great Britain?

Answer:

  1. National or Public Health Insurance can be very different to what most Americans are used to and can be of limited service for mobile citizens. Many public plans offer less in terms of medical services than what is covered under a private plan. In particular, public plans generally only cover you in your host country or region.
  2. For an expatriate that travels for business or returns home throughout the year, benefits stop at the border. When covered under a national plan you may not have access to the leading private facilities or specialists. You may experience different treatment protocols or long waiting periods for elective surgeries. It is unlikely you will be covered for medical evacuation benefits under a public health plan. With your GeoBlue Navigator policy you are covered all around the world with comprehensive coverage and access to the best treatment options you and your family deserve.
  3. When you select the “worldwide coverage area” on your GeoBlue Navigator cover you are covered also in the U.S. and are free to return home for treatment and to convalesce. You can also keep the coverage for up to 9 months upon repatriation, guaranteeing future insurability.
  4. Purchasing plans that are U.S. Admitted, such as the GeoBlue Navigator expat insurance, offers better benefits, unrivaled networks and a high degree of consumer protection.

Question: Am I guaranteed to be issues this GeoBlue Navigator policy like our ACA (affordable care act) insurance plans here in the U.S. when I apply?

Answer: No. The GeoBlue Navigator expatriate insurance is not a guaranteed medical insurance plan.  Why?  Because the ACA (affordable care act) laws in the U.S. are not applicable for all international health insurance plans.  Only U.S. domestic medical insurance has to follow the ACA laws.  However, the GeoBlue Navigator policy has many extra medical benefits than normal overseas medical insurance cover does not.  You may view all Good Neighbor Insurance’s international career insurance here on our corporate site at http://www.gninsurance.com/long-term-international-health-insurance/#All_Plans.

Question: What zip code should I use when determining my premium rate while I am currently overseas?

Answer: Policies for applicants residing outside the U.S. are issued through the Global Citizens Association office in Washington D.C. The zip code that applies is 20036. Please enter “20036” or “0” in the quoting tool ( https://www.socialgoodinsurance.com/nomads/) if applying online while living outside the U.S.

Question: Once I apply online, https://www.socialgoodinsurance.com/nomads/, how long will it take for the underwriting process to be completed?

Answer: If the underwriters are not requesting additional information we at Good Neighbor Insurance usually see a turn-around time of 2-5 business days. If there are additional questions, such as a specific medical questionnaire sent out by GeoBlue, then your underwriting process will take a little longer. If we receive your GeoBlue Navigator expat medical application before your requested effective date, we can honor the effective date even if the approval comes through thereafter.
